Mohammedan Sporting Club clinched their second win after beating hosts Sheikh Russel KC 2-1 away at Sylhet District Stadium on Monday while Police FC bagged their first Bangladesh Premier League win (2-1) over Uttar Baridhara Club in other match in Dhaka.

Souleymane Diabate’s early goal was cancelled out by Russel’s Timorese striker Pedro Henrique in the same half before Sahed Hossain’s 86th-minute winner ensured Mohammedan six points from three matches to move second in the table.

Running past his marker to collect a long ball at the top of the box, Diabate, the Malian forward, calmly placed past the onrushing keeper Ashraful Islam Rana to break the deadlock in the sixth minute.

Alisher Azizov forwarded a low free-kick of Md Abdullah toward Pedro inside the danger zone and the Brazil-born striker made no mistake to beat Mohammedan keeper Suzan Hossain.

Sahed was lucky to get the winning goal during a goalmouth scramble from where Md Khalekuzzaman tried to clear the ball from Moneke but it went to Sahed instead and the midfielder sneaked home from middle of the box.

Police earn historic win

The first match of the season between two newly promoted sides Police and Uttar Baridhara ended with the former side securing their first win in their debut BPL campaign at the BNS.

Police, who beat Arambagh and Saif Sporting Club en route to secure a semifinal berth in the Federation Cup, went ahead through a glancing header of Sidney Rivera in a corner at the half-hour mark, a minute after the American forward’s initial effort missed the sidepost by a whisker.

Bulgarian midfielder Laskov Antonio doubled the lead five minutes later with a brilliant free-kick that sneaked home into the top right corner.

Local midfielder Arif Hossen headed home from the six-yard box following a Landing Darboe cross to pull one back within two minutes after the resumption.

Landing, the former Sheikh Jamal and Abahani forward, had his chance a minute later but fired his attempt over the bar while Luka Rotkovic saw his powerful shot fisted by keeper and kissed the bar at the hour-mark.

Baridhara are the only team who is yet to register a point while Police earned four points and Sheikh Russel have two points without a win so far from three outings.
