Former Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar shakes hands with the Bangladesh women footballers at BFF House Dhaka Tribune

Former Brazil treble winning goalkeeper Julio Cesar encouraged the Bangladesh goalkeepers to overcome their deficiencies and become the best in the world.

The former World Cupper had made a hectic 32-hour journey in Bangladesh where he met the local goalies among many other itineraries Thursday.

The three-time World Cupper in his first Bangladesh visit met with the members of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, shared time with local goalies, played with young female players and enjoyed the semi-final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup between Bangladesh and Burundi before his scheduled departure on midnight.

Bangladesh players are generally short in height compared to their European and African counterparts, but the Latin American custodian said height is not the paramount thing to achieve success under the bars.

Cesar looks on as the Bangladesh women footballers train Dhaka Tribune “I’m an example to them because I’m not tall. I told them, if you are strong in your legs it doesn’t matter whether you are tall or short,” said the 40-yard old Brazilian, who is 1.87m tall, during his meeting with the local custodians.

Domestic league champion Bashundhara Kings’ goalkeeping coach Nuruzzaman Nayon informed that during the last Independence Cup, 59.09% of the total 44 goals were scored due to keepers’ mistakes and the Brazilian advised to improve both the mental and physical strength of the goalies to absorb the situations quickly.

Earlier in the day, the ex-Brazilian netminder started his day with a visit to Bangabandhu Memorial Musuem at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 before leaving for the BFF House.

“It was very emotional visit to the house of the Father of the Nation. I didn’t know nothing before but now I know many things about him and the country. I’m so glad to come here during the countdown of the (birth) centenary of the Father of the nation,” he said.

Cesar pays his respects to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman BFF Cesar was also inspired by the members of the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football Team members.

“I had the opportunity to meet the former footballers of Swadhin Bangla Football Team. I told them you are real footballers because I can imagine playing football for country at that time during the war, not easy. They left real contribution. You need to be very strong to do this. They are still keeping strong. It is good experience for me as I can share this memory with my family, friends, and former footballers,” said the former Inter Milan keeper.

Hailing both current best footballers in the world Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Brazilian said his former colleague and compatriot Ronaldinho, with whom he played in many age levels as well, is his most favorite player for his unbelievable abilities.

Cesar, who was regarded as one of the best in his time, saw both extremes as he was part of the treble-winning Inter side back in 2009 and was under the sticks in the 2014 World Cup when Brazil tasted the humiliating 7-1 defeat against Germany at their home ground.

But the Brazilian took all these experiences as part of a glorious football career that still provides him satisfaction after retirement.
