Women’s national team skipper Sabina Khatun is likely to play for Bashundhara Kings and Maria Manda for Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in the much-awaited Women’s Football League, scheduled to begin on January 31.

Both the favorites have already begun preparing their squads.

Bashundhara are waiting to confirm the signings of a number of national players, including striker Sabina, forwards Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar and Tohura Khatun, midfielder Mishrat Jahan Moushumi, and defenders Akhi Khatun, Shamsunnahar and Masura Parvin.

“We are in advanced talks with 14-15 players at the national training camp. The rest of the players will be recruited through open trials. We will form a squad to play for the championship,” Bashundhara president Imrul Hasan said Friday.

Russel are aiming for young midfielders Maria Manda and Monika Chakma, as well as striker Anuching Mogini, forward Marzia Akter, Rituporna Chakma and defender Anai Mogini.

Women’s national team head coach Golam Rabbani Choton is likely to guide Russel in the five-team women’s league, which is being held again after six years.

Bashundhara appointed former national player Mahmuda Sharifa Oditi as their women’s team coach a few months ago.

Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, Uttarbanga Football Club and Begum Anwara Sporting Club are the other clubs registered for the league.

The transfer window will run from January 11 to 26.
