Mailson began his senior career in Portugal ten years ago before joining Indian Super League outfits Chennaiyin FC in 2017
Brazilian defender Mailson Alves joined six-time premier league champions Abahani Limited for the upcoming season and is set to make his debut in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2019 which is kicking off in Chittagong Saturday next week.
Portuguese head coach Mario Lemos also returned for the Sky Blues on Thursday, the same day Mailson arrived in the capital as Abahani began their training camp two days ago with 14 players while eight players are with the national team in Kolkata.
Mailson began his senior career in Portugal ten years ago before joining Indian Super League outfits Chennaiyin FC in 2017. The 31-year-old rejoined Chennaiyin two years back and spent there since then before Abahani move.
Lemos, who is currently focusing on to improve the fitness of the players, commented on new signing. “I knew Mailson well, played against him in the AFC Cup. An experienced player and he was the captain of Chennaiyin. He is a very aggressive player and strong in set pieces.”
Abahani now have three foreign recruits in the camp with Mailson, Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba and Egyptian defender Eissa while Haitian winger Kervens Belfort will be unavailable for the Club Cup.
