Bangladesh national football coach James Day voted for Barcelona’s Argentine forward Lionel Messi as the Fifa Best men’s player of the year award that took place at the La Scala Opera house in Milan, Italy on Monday.
Day chose Liverpool’s Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk and Real Madrid’s Belgian forward Eden Hazard for the second and third places respectively.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuiyan chose Cristiano Ronaldo as the Best men’s player of the year. Messi was his second pick, and Hazard was the third.

The winner of the Fifa Best men’s player of the year was selected by an international jury comprising the current coaches of all men’s national teams (one per team), the current captains of all men’s national teams (one per team) and one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team.
Along with Day and Jamal, veteran journalist Raihan Mahmood voted in the process from Bangladesh. He picked Messi, Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and Ronaldo for the top three positions respectively.
