Abahani Limited are going to become the first ever club from Bangladesh to play in the tough knockout stage of the AFC Cup but the six-time Bangladesh Premier League champions are not in a good shape before the historical occasion. The powerhouse of Bangladesh football are facing some huge worries on getting the service of their top players on the pitch for the crucial home tie against North Korean giants 4.25 SC in the Inter-Zone semifinal play-offs on Wednesday.

It was revealed on Sunday that the Sky Blues will not have the service of their new Egyptian signing Alaaeldin Nasr Elmagraby Eissa, who was brought in early this month to replace Masih Saighani, one of the top performing defender in the AFC Cup group stages. The Egyptian has to serve one-match ban after receiving a red card while playing his last AFC Cup game for his previous side.

While the team was thinking about repairing their defense line they got some bad news regarding the attacking force as well. It was revealed yesterday afternoon before their practice session that in-form midfielder Mamunul Islam is quite uncertain to play the first leg due to a calf muscle injury that he suffered three days back.

“He (Mamunul) suffered an injury in calf muscle. We don’t want to take any risk with him as there are also national team’s World Cup qualifying matches next month. If he can’t be fully fit before the Wednesday’s game we have to reform the squad without him.” said Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu.

Not only the home leg, the Dhanmondi-based giants’ wretched fate may hunt them even in the away league as their highest scorer of the Premier League Sunday Chizoba is uncertain to visit North Korea for some visa complication.

Abahani have to fly for China first before going to North Korea. All the players in the squad got their visas except Sunday.

“It is very discomforting for us that the China authorities do not want to provide transit visa to Sunday. We are still trying but if he doesn’t get the visa finally we have to play the away game without him which would be a very big setback for us.”
