The victory put the Kings almost close to their maiden professional league title in the debut season
Rising national forward Matin Mia slammed a hat-trick as Bashundhara Kings extended their record winning run in the Bangladesh Premier League to 13 in a row after handing Brothers Union a thrashing 5-0 defeat at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilfamari Tuesday.
The victory put the Kings almost close to their maiden professional league title in the debut season as they have earned 58 points from 20 matches and remain as the only side still unbeaten. The second placed Abahani Limited are seven points behind and it is highly unlikely for them to catch kings in remaining four games. On the other end, Brothers are struggling in the relegation zone with 16 points from 20 matches and placed at 12th in the 13-team tournament.
Md Ibrahim gave Kings the breakthrough in the 31st minute. Kyrgyzstan midfielder Baktiyar Duishobekov delivered a lovely through to Ibrahim who broke into the left side of the box before hitting the net with an angular shot at near post.
Matin doubled the lead eight minutes later with a looping header from the top of six-yard box after a headed pass from Brazilian Marcos Vinicius. The 20-year-old added another three minutes into the second half placing home from a vantage situation after Marcos headed down a corner.
Matin completed his treble in the 67th minute thanks to Brothers keeper Sujon Chowdhury who couldn’t grip the close-range shot after Baktiyar’s cross from left side met Matin in the middle of the box. It was Matin’s 11th goal in the league this season, second highest among the local forwards after Abahani’s Nabib Newaz Ziban.
Substitute midfielder Alamgir Kabir Rana sealed the last goal of the game two minutes into the injury time as Bashundhara left the pitch with their 19th win in the league this season.
Raphael struck hattrick in Russel win
In-form Nigerian striker Raphael Odoyin netted the other hat-trick of the day as Sheikh Russel KC outplayed relegation-threatened Nofel Sporting Club 4-0 at Shaheed Bulu Stadium in Noakhali.
Young national forward Biplo Ahmed took the lead in the 24th minute before Raphael scored three goals in the 44th, 81st and 85th minute to complete the hat-trick. Raphael moved to second among top scorers’ list with 15 goals.
Russel leapfrogged Saif Sporting to move to third in the table with 42 points from 20 matches while Nofel remained at 11th with 16 points, same as Brothers.
Team BJMC are almost set to become the first side to face the relegation as the bottom-placed side conceded a 3-2 defeat against Rahmatganj MFS in the first match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Rahmatganj’s Congolese forward Siyo Zunapio netted a spectacular bicycle goal from top of the box to open the scoring in the second minute. Right winger Rakibul doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a left-footed grounder from just outside the box before Zunapiyo added another to make it 3-0 five minutes into the second half after utilizing a rebound.
BJMC tried to stage a comeback but could manage to pull back only two goals in the second half. Md Al Amin smashed home in Ali Akbar’s free-kick in the 58th minute before Otabek scored from a free-kick in the 72nd minute.
Meanwhile in the day’s other match, Muktijoddha SKC and Arambagh KS played out a 1-1 draw at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj. Arambagh’s Cameroonian forward Paul Emile’s 66th minute opener was cancelled out by Guinean defender Younoussa Camara in the 84th minute.
