Fading local giant Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited finally returned to winning ways as they edged Team BJMC 2-1 in the Bangladesh Premier League at Shaheed Bhulu Stadium in Noakhali Friday.
Co-incidentally, it was BJMC against whom the Black and Whites had won by the same scoreline in January to kick off their top-flight campaign this season.
In between, Mohammedan played 11 matches, drawing thrice and losing eight times.
It was BJMC however, who took the lead in just the second minute when Uzbekistan midfielder Otabek controlled a long ball, evaded the off-side trap before shooting home over the Mohammedan goalkeeper.
Reigning champion Abahani Limited stayed hot on the heels of Bangladesh Premier League table-topper Bashundhara Kings as they are second with 33 points from the same number of games, including 11 victorieshttps://t.co/mQXGtWJS3A#ABAHANI #FOOTBALL #BANGLADESHFOOTBALL #BANGLADESH— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) May 9, 2019
Mohammedan though soon brought parity in the 19th minute as Japanese midfielder Uryu Nagata scored from the penalty spot.
The referee pointed to the spot after Mali forward Souleymane Diabate was fouled inside the box.
Mohammedan went ahead at the hour mark through Diabate, who shot home from a Sheikh Galib Newaz pass after a BJMC player lost possession.
The Motijheel outfit are now 11th in the 13-team standing with nine points from 13 matches while BJMC are rooted at the bottom with four points from the same number of outings as Mohammedan.
