Abahani breathing down Bashundhara’s necks

Abahani Limited continue to give Bangladesh Premier League table-topper Bashundhara Kings no breathing space as the former trail the latter by just point following the Sky Blues’ thrilling win over Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Saturday.

Second placed Abahani edged Sheikh Jamal 4-3 and now have 30 points from 12 matches, one less than Bashundhara, who have played a game less.

Sheikh Jamal on the other hand are eighth with 13 points from 11 games.

Sheikh Jamal took a shocking lead in just the first minute of the game when Luciano Perez found the back of the net.

Sheikh Jamal’s joy however, lasted just nine minutes as Abahani’s Afghan recruit Masi Saighani brought parity in the 10th minute.

Abahani then went ahead in the 27th minute when Manik put through his own net.

Reigning champion Abahani went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

The holder extended their lead in the 63rd minute through Kervens Belfort before youngster Nabib Newaj Jibon made it 4-1 in the 70th minute.

Sheikh Jamal though brought themselves right back into the game as Ziku bagged a brace inside 10 minutes.

Zikur bagged his first in the 80th minute and grabbed his second 10 minutes later, but Abahani just about held on to manage all three points.
