Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra picked up an important win in the Bangladesh Premier League match against Chittagong Abahani by a solitary goal on Wednesday at Sylhet District Stadium.

Local striker Khalequzzaman Sobuj scored the only goal for the runners-up of the last year to see them accumulate 13 points from five games and reach the second position of the table.

The first half went barren and without any mentionable attack. On the hour mark Sabuj received a long-ball from Yamin Munna and his powerful shot from outside the box found the net.

With the defeat Chittagong have eight points from six matches and are sitting on the seventh spot.

In the other match of the day fallen giant Mohammedan Sporting Club faced another defeat as Saif Sporting Club beat them by 2-1 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Saif got the lead just in the tenth minute of the game when their Russian recruit Denis Bolshakov slotted the ball home off a pass from Koren Park Seung-Il.

Park once again earned another assist in the opening minutes of the second half when he gave an immaculate back pass and Colombian Deiner Córdoba made a powerful shot to double the lead.

Saif goalkeeper Ziaur Rahman did his part to retain the lead as he denied Nigerian Nkwocha Kingsley in the 54th minute.

However, the black and white outfits got a goal in the 67th minute as Amir Hakim Bappy headed one off the Kingsley head as the Nigerian received the ball from a Pashbon Molla corner.

Saif now have 13 points from six matches while Mohammedan, who received their fourth consecutive defeat, have three points from five matches.
