Experienced defender Nasir Uddin scored the first goal for the victors before Motin Mia and Daniel Collindres scored one goal each in the second half to ensure a big win of Kings.

This is the second consecutive win for the cash-rich club against the powerhouse of Dhaka football as they beat them in the semifinal of the Independence Cup en route to become the champion.

Both the teams are top contenders of the league but the hat-trick winner Abahani, who won the Federation Cup by beating Kings in the final, were on the back foot early in the season.

The match started after an opening ceremony as the venue made its debut in the top flight football and state minister for Ministry of Sports and Youth Affair, Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the stadium for the Premier League.

Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin was also present among the dignitaries.

But visitors Abahani took the initiatives early in the match. Haitian Kervens Belfort made a perfect cross in the Kings’ box but Rubel Mia’s shot hit the cross bar. Kings also faced the same fate as a powerful right-foot shot of Collindres rebounded from the bar in the 33rd minute.

However, Abahani squandered their best opportunity nine minutes later as Nigerian Sunday Chizoba’s penalty kick went wide of the post.

The hosts, who were supported by a big crowd, took control of the game at the last moments of the first half when Nasir Uddin put the ball home from a Collindres free-kick.

With the goal, an inspired Kings took more initiative and that bore rich fruit as Motin Mia made a diagonal shot in the hour-mark to beat Abahani goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel and make the score 2-0.

Collindres sealed the match in the 69th minute when the Costa Rica’s World Cup star put the ball over the head of Sohel for a clear-cut lead of 3-0.

Kings beat Maldives New Radiant FC by 4-1 in a friendly match on September 21 last year too in their first ever appearance in the venue and their coach Óscar Bruzón was happy to see the continuation against mighty Abahani.

“Abahani is a strong team but we kept our winning run in the venue”, said the Spaniard after the match.

On the other hand, Abahani’s Portugese coach Óscar Bruzón took the defeat as a learning curve for them.

Muktijoddha beat Sk. Jamal

Muktijoddha Sangshad’s Ivory Coast forward Ballo Famoussa scored the first hat trick in this year’s Premier League when his side beat last year’s runners-up Lt. Sheikh Jamal DC by 3-0 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium Gopalganj on Wednesday.

Famoussa, the 26-year old marksman, was off the mark in the 43rd minute of the game when he heads Mohammad Sohel’s cross home.

Famoussa adds his tally in 67th minute when he entered into the Jamal box from the right before beat the goalkeeper Samiul Hasan Masum through a diagonal shot.

But his third goal was perhaps the most scenic as he scored through an individual brilliant in the 87th minute to pick up the hattrick.
