Pakistan secured a place in the semi-final of the Saff Suziki Cup 2018 after sending Bhutan out of the tournament with a 3-0 defeat in their third and final Group A match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Saturday afternoon.

With six points from three matches, Pakistan officially confirmed their place as a semi-finalist.

Bhutan made as many as six changes from the 4-0 defeat against Nepal while Pakistan made only one change with Hassan Bashir taking back the centre-forward role.

Muhammad Riaz gave Pakistan the lead in the 20th minute, placing home past Jamphel at the near post after a Saddam header on a long ball set the midfielder up. Riaz rounded off defender Rinchen Dorji at the right edge of the six-yard box.

Bashir doubled the lead nine minutes later with a sliding finish from the top of the box following a precise cross from Muhammad Ali from the right flank.

Substitute midfielder Ahmed Faheem sealed victory in the first minute of injury time after placing home an Ali cross.

Pakistan dominated the game with more ball possession and chances created. They saw two of their chances denied by the woodwork.

In the 10th minute, Bhutan goalkeeper Ngawang Jamphel made a brilliant save, tipping away Bashir’s header from a Saddam Hossain cross, as the ball went over the bar after kissing the woodwork. Riaz’s powerful volley following a fine ball by Bashir hit the crossbar in the 41st minute.

Bhutan couldn’t create clear-cut chances but they had a couple of chances in the last 10 minutes. In the 82nd minute, Kabi Raj Rai headed inches over the bar following a cross from substitute forward Kingay Rabgay before Chencho Gyeltshen’s  shot at the near post was saved five minutes later.
