Uttara Motors unveils SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 trophy

The trophy was unveiled at a ceremony held at Uttara Motors office in Dhaka

Uttara Motors, official sponsor of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 yesterday unveiled the trophy of the tournament.

SAFF football games are one of the biggest tournaments for the men’s national teams in the South Asia region and are considered almost as big as the world cup in this region.

Bangladesh is hosting to the now seven-team tournament for the third time.

The trophy was unveiled at a ceremony held at Uttara Motors office in Dhaka.

As the chief guest of the event, Kazi Salahuddin, President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) said the Bangladesh team is quite confident about this tournament.

Chairman and Managing Director of Uttara Motors Ltd Matiur Rahman said:  “Uttara Motors Ltd is the sole distributor of Suzuki Motor Vehicle in Bangladesh and also the official sponsor of Saff Suzuki Cup 2018. Uttara Motors is very happy and proud to be a partner in the development of Bangladesh football.”

The seven participating teams of the tournament have been divided into two groups with the winner and runner-up of each progressing to the semi-final. The tournament will begin on September 4 with the final slated to be held on September 15. All the matches will be staged at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka.

Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bhutan are the current members of the SAFF while India have been the dominant force in the competition historically and have claimed a staggering seven of the 11 editions held so far.

South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), founded in 1997, is an association of the football playing nations in South Asia and is part of the larger Asian Football Confederation.

Tickets sales have already begun on September 1.Ticket prices have been kept low intentionally to attract more crowds. Two categories of tickets have been introduced. Category-1 tickets will cost Tk 50 while category-2 tickets will cost Tk 20 only.

Deputy Managing Directors of Uttara Motors Mujibur Rahman and Durand Mehdabur Rahman, Executive Director Kazi Imdad Hossain, Head of Business Planning Nayeemur Rahman, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka football team's coach, captain and high official's were present on the occasion.
