Day eight meant the business end of the Ascent Cup had arrived and teams engaged in “do or die” (Well, “in or out” is a milder way of putting it!) encounters.
The evening began with the bankers from Brac Bank taking on the safe and secure men from Securex. It was an evenly matched contest which ended with Brac Bank breaching the Securex goal twice as opposed to once to end up winner with a 2-1 margin. Securex’s promising run comes to an end finally and we hope to see them back stronger next year.
The second game was a high tempo and rather feisty affair between Dhaka Tribune and Runner Group which saw the “newsmen” run away with a comfortable 5-3 victory in the end. Runner Group can be proud of the great show they put up and we wish them the best for future tournaments.
Game three was an “A-class” encounter between Asutex and Ascent Group. Evenly matched and unwilling to give each other an inch of space to create goals, we had our first tie-breaker of the evening after the teams were locked at 0-0 after regulation time. In the end it was a matter of a solitary goal which decided the game with Asutex nicking it 0 (3) – 0 (2) in the Russian roulette called penalties. Someone has to lose but Ascent Group bowed out with their heads held high.
The fourth clash was between the advertisers from Asiatic and the tournament veterans Beximco Textiles. Though Asiatic let their creative juices flow on the pitch and put up an impressive display, the experienced and clinical opponent won convincingly in the end by a 4-1 margin.
Brac Bank 2 1 Securex
Dhaka Tribune 5 3 Runner
Asutex 0 0 Ascent Group
Asutex won 3-2 on penalties
Asiatic 1 4 Beximco Textiles
