Favourite Saif Sporting Club will take on Brothers Union in the inaugural game of the Walton U-18 Football Tournament, which is kicking off after three years with the participation of 12 top-flight clubs at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Thursday. Premier league champion Abahani Limited face Farashganj Sporting Club in the day's second match at the same venue.
Former national star Jahid Hasan Ameli will begin a new journey as team manager of reigning champion Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited youth team. He was among the representatives of the participating clubs during a pre-tournament presser at BFF House Wednesday.
"This is my first time as football manager of a club. As I have no games in recent times, I thought to myself, why not take the opportunity to work with the younger players," said Ameli before adding, "I've been with the team for a month during the preparation period. It's tough to say who are the favourites in such a tournament where almost all clubs formed their squad taking players from the recently concluded 3rd division football."
Ameli however, mentioned Saif Sporting as one of the strongest sides in the competition. Saif Sporting run an U-18 youth team in BKSP from where majority of the players would play alongside five from their U-16 side, who recently competed in the 3rd division.
