Emon Mahmud Babu and Sunday Chizoba returned to the squad as Abahani Limited arrived in Mizoram, India Monday morning ahead of their AFC Cup Group E encounter against Aizawl Football Club Wednesday.
The Sky Blues missed the service of their key midfielder Emon in their opening two AFC Cup matches due to injury while the club's top-scorer last season, Nigerian striker Sunday missed the previous game away to Bengaluru FC due to suspension. Sunday replaced Didarul Alam in the final squad.
National midfielder Sohel Rana however, was ruled out from the 18-man squad after undergoing surgery recently. Young versatile full-back Saad Uddin sustained a minor injury before leaving for the north-eastern Indian state but Saiful Bari Titu hoped for his quick recovery.
"Emon's return is positive for the team. He is a ball-player, we need more possession in midfield. As he has been out of practice and game-time for a long time, his fitness is not of the highest standard but he is trying his best to remain fit," said Titu to Dhaka Tribune before leaving for Mizoram.
Titu also informed that the priority was given to the fitness of the players during preparation. Abahani will face Aizawl, last-year's I-League champion, in their next two matches. Titu said the Aizawl tie would be very important for the team to get their confidence back.
