Bangladesh striker Sabina Khatun continued her hot scoring streak in the Indian Women's League 2018 as her brace inspired Sethu Football Club of Tamil Nadu to a 3-1 win over Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports and Education in Shillong Friday.
Indumathi gave Sethu the lead in the 27th minute before Pradeepa Sekar brought parity in the 28th minute. Sabina however, intervened yet again, her 76th minute goal giving her side the lead before the Bangladesh striker netted again in the 81st minute to make it 3-1.
Sabina scored her first goal Friday from a tight angle as her lofted shot went over the opposing custodian's head while for her second, she curved home from inside the box.
Earlier, the young Bangladesh forward failed to find the back of the net in her first game for Sethu as her side side conceded a 5-0 loss against Kryphsa but she made amends in her second game, as Sethu won 2-0 over Gokulam Kerala Football Club, riding on Sabina's solitary strike.
In her third match, Sabina netted once as Sethu won 2-0 against Rising Student Club of Odisha. Sethu then qualified for the semi-final after winning their fourth game 3-2 against Rush Soccer Club, Sabina this time scoring twice.
In total, Sabina has scored six goals to rise to the top of the highest goal-scorers' list.
Sethu will take on table-topper Eastern Sporting Union Tuesday in their sixth and last match of the final round. Eastern Sporting lead the points table with 13 points from five games while Sethu have a point less in the same number of outings.
Following the end of the final round, the semi-finals will take place Wednesday. The grand finale will be held next Saturday.
