Comfit clinch their first ever BGMEA Cup
Comfit Composite Knit Limited beat Laila Group Bando Design Limited 3-2 in a nail-biting tie-breaker to clinch their first ever BGMEA Cup at Army Stadium in Dhaka Friday. After the normal time ended 0-0, Comfit pulled through in the penalty shootout. Polin, the goalkeeper of Comfit, was adjudged man of the final as he saved a crucial penalty. He was also named the tournament’s best goalie. Mridul and Imran from Bando were awarded with the man of the tournament and highest-scorer award respectively. Imran scored 10 goals. For the very first time, the two-time runners-up defeated the two-time champion. Sixteen teams participated and were initially divided into groups of four. Nine other teams and the champion were awarded during the presentation ceremony. The participating teams were – Bando, Comfit, Epyllion Group, Ananta Group, Nasa Group, Majumdar Group, Aspire Garments, Sterling Group, Versatile Group, Mehnaz Craft and Style Limited, Torque Fashions Limited, Mask Trouser Limited, Fortis Group, Self Innovative Fashion, Ali Garments and Apparel Industries Limited. BGMEA president Siddiqur Rahman presented the trophy to the winning team. Vice president of BGMEA, SS Mannan (Kochi), vice president (finance) Mohammad Nasir, vice president Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) and former vice presidents Abdus Salam Murshedy and Atikul Islam were also present during the event, along with directors and other members of BGMEA. The tournament sponsors were - BBS cables, Sailor (sister concern of Epyllion Group), Laila Group, Dhaka Bank Limited, Shahjalal Islami Bank limited, Jamuna Bank limited, Meridian Finance, Daikin (sister concern of Transcom Group), Islami Bank limited, Sterling and Securities, Aplos Global Limited, BUFT, Porcelanosa and Neo Zipper.
