The Bangladesh Football Federation has handed one-year suspension to Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society head coach Kamal Ahmed Babu from all kind of football activities. The decision came after a disciplinary committee meeting at BFF House Tuesday.
The suspension slapped on Babu was made in accordance with Article 22 and 53 of the BFF’s disciplinary code and will see Babu barred until February 12 next year. The disciplinary committee, led by its chairman Mezbah Uddin, also fined Babu Tk two lakhs which the coach has been asked to pay within a month.
While protesting the referee's decision on a penalty during their Independence Cup semi-final against Chittagong Abahani Limited on February 6, Babu entered the pitch and got involved in a verbal fight with the referee.
Babu later sought apology for his behaviour on social media. The disciplinary committee sent show-cause notice to the club and the coach but the reply was not deemed satisfactory by the committee. Kamal however, has the option of appealing the decision.
The BFF informed that they sent official letter of the ban to all football clubs and associations but Babu denied to make any comment when asked whether he is considering appealing the decision. He said, "I would not comment on the matter unless I'm officially informed." He also informed that he was never handed such lengthy suspension ever before in his long coaching career.
