Out of three mini artificial turfs funded by the Asian Football Confederation, Nilphamari became the first district to get its mini-turf installed and inaugurated inside the district stadium Sunday afternoon. Minister of Cultural Affair, Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the turf as the chief guest.
The 20-40 ft. artificial turf covered by iron-made fence and floodlights came to light under the AFC’s mini-pitch scheme. The installation process of the other two mini-turfs in Feni and Madaripur districts are also close to being completed and likely to be inaugurated later this month.
The BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag said the three turfs cost the AFC US$0.3m and like the BFF artificial turf in Arambagh, the material of the turfs was bought from an Italian company titled Limonta Sport while a Thai company named Seara got the job for the installation.
Earlier, four mini-turfs were reported to be installed but Shohag said the AFC couldn't set up more than three turfs within their budget, thus Satkhira was ruled out of contention. The BFF GS however, said they would apply to the AFC for four more mini-turfs for Dhaka this year.
