Valdes, 35, has been without a club since leaving Middlesbrough last May. And despite having offers on the table to continue his career, on New Year’s Day he ironically took to social media to announce he was hanging up his gloves.

And after weighing up his options during the current campaign, Valdes has announced his retirement from the game by deleting his Twitter and Instagram profiles, with the World Cup winner believed to be eyeing a quiet life away from football.
