Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited began their second phase of the Bangladesh Premier League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Solomon King Kanform, Raphael Odoyin Onwrebe and Zahed Parvez Chowdhury scored a goal apiece as the Dhanmondi outfit moved back to second spot in the points table with 27 points from 12 matches, only two behind leader Chittagong Abahani Limited.
Mohammedan, who remained at fifth place with 17 points, seemed disorganised in midfield, shaky in defence and rarely created any notable chances.
Gambian forward Solomon gave Sheikh Jamal the breakthrough in the 39th minute, tapping home on a rebound into an empty net after winger Jabed Khan's initial shot was blocked brilliantly by Mohammedan goalkeeper Rasel Mahmud Liton.
Nigerian striker Raphael doubled the lead four minutes into the second half, heading home a Zahed corner. The veteran Zahed, who was unmarked at the middle of the box, extended the lead four minutes later, heading home into the far post following a Solomon cross.
Mohammedan's experienced players in the form of Jahid Hasan Ameli, Mithun Chowdhury and Faisal Mahmud didn't start for the side while their new signing, Haitian striker Augustin Walson came off the bench in the second half. He went close to scoring in the 80th minute but saw his effort from close-range hit the woodwork.
Meanwhile in the day's other game at the same venue, Team BJMC and Brothers Union played out a 1-1 draw. Midfielder Abdullah al Mamun put BJMC ahead in the 41st minute before Congolese forward Siyo Zunapio cancelled the lead in the 77th minute.
The result didn't change either of the side's positions in the bottom half of the standing as BJMC remained seventh with 15 points while the Gopibagh outfit are second from bottom with only seven points.
