Bangladesh might be flying high at the moment in the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers after impressive performances against host Tajikistan and Maldives but their real test awaits Monday when they take on favourite Uzbekistan in Hisor. The Group B match kicks off at 3pm, Bangladesh standard time.
The junior Tigers gave a great account of themselves against the Tajiks Tuesday, holding the home team to a creditable draw, before getting the better of Maldives 1-0 Thursday. The scoreline however, flattered Maldives as Bangladesh dominated the entire game. Only a lack of finishing prowess denied the youngsters in red and green from running away with the match.
The Uzbeks though will pose a strong test of Bangladesh's credential. They trounced Sri Lanka 10-0 in their opening game before thrashing Maldives 6-0.
Bangladesh captain Tutul Hossain Badshah therefore, was under no illusion on the eve of their clash. He said, "Our team played fantastically well against Tajikistan, we also won against Maldives. Every member of the team is physically fit and doing well mentally. We are confident ahead of the match against Uzbekistan team. Uzbekistan are a very strong opponent in Group B and they have good scorers in the team. Already they have scored 16 goals in two games. Now, our team combination is very good, which will be very helpful and useful against Uzbekistan."
Bangladesh will conclude their qualifying campaign against Sri Lanka Wednesday.
The teams are vying for the 14 berths still up for grabs in the tournament. China, who won Group G in Phnom Penh last week, have already sealed qualification.
The 10 group winners and five best second-placed teams advance to the finals alongside host Indonesia.
