BKSP emerge unbeaten champion in Subroto Cup Football

Update : 16 Sep 2017, 07:28 AM
BKSP girls continued their amazing form to emerge as the unbeaten champion in the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2017 after beating India’s Mizoram’s Government Mizo High School 1-0 in the U-17 final at Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, India on Friday. Forward Rehana Akhter scored the all-important goal in the 11th minute of the game, which was enough for a solid BKSP defence-line to keep the cleansheet and maintain the lead till the final whistle. A total of 32 girls’ teams, mostly from different states of India, took part in the tournament but only one side from Bangladesh entered their name in the participating list. BKSP formed their first ever women’s football team only last year and the newly-formed team participated in the Subroto Cup for the first time in the same year where they managed to reach the quarter-finals. BKSP started the tournament convincingly with a 5-0 victory over Tripura’s Mungiabari High School last week before beating host Delhi 5-0 in their second group match the following day. The BKSP girls defeated a team from Haryana 2-1 in the quarter-finals on Monday before outplaying Meghalaya’s Umthli Sec School 3-1 in the semi-finals to seal the ticket for the final. Other finalist Mizoram girls’ team scored a total of 49 goals in their previous five matches before the final where they faced the real test against the indomitable Bengal girls.
