Mohammedan open account with thrashing win
Four-star Mohammedan Sporting Club registered their first victory in the Bangladesh Premier League this season as they handed Farashganj Sporting Club a crushing 4-0 defeat at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday. Biplu Ahmed, Toklis Ahmed and Anik Hossain netted one apiece within half an hour of kick off to give the Black and Whites a solid start before Nigerian striker Nkwocha Kingsley Chigozie added the other in the second half. Mohammedan’s Indian head coach Syed Naeemuddin guided the club from the dug-out after two matches. Naeemuddin left here for India after Mohammedan’s first match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. The Black and Whites have not won a single point since then losing all their first three matches. Yesterday’s victory saw them jump to eighth place from bottom of the table with three points while Farashganj, whose only win came against reigning champions Dhaka Abahani, moved to ninth with same points. Farashganj midfielder Afzal Hossain created a great chance for the Old Dhaka outfits within three minutes but his cutback in front of the post was wasted by Nigerian striker Chinedu Mathew. In the seventh minute, Toklis Ahmed outpaced his marker to collect a long ball, broke into right side of penalty area, managed to dodge past the Farashganj keeper but stumbled immediately to lose the possession. Biplu Ahmed gave the Black and Whites the breakthrough in the 19th minute placing home into middle of the post following a precise cross of captain Faisal Mahmud from the right flank. Toklis doubled the lead five minutes later with solo effort. Receiving a long cross from Anik, Toklis steered past his marker to enter into the box before slotting home calmly into near post. Anik Hossain extended the lead four minutes later after shaky defensive display from Farashganj. Anik collected a deflected ball at the top of the box and sent the ball past Ashim Das. Nkwocha Kingsley made it 4-0 at the hour mark. The Nigerian striker dodged past the onrushing keeper at the edge of the box before placing the ball into an empty net.
