New Bangladesh Premier League side Saif Sporting Club has roped in Haitian international forward Wedson Anselme for a record salary of US$13000 per month and will be available for the second phase of ongoing league.
Wedson had been a regular face in the country’s top flight league last four years playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, winning the club two premier league titles, leading the top forwards’ chart consistently during his time. He left Dhanmondi outfits for Kolkata giants East Bengal last season to feature in the I-League which concluded on April 30.
Saif Sporting announced the signing of Wedson on Monday and revealed that the Haitian will get a total US$78,000 during his six-month contract, highest by any player in country’s professional league history. Wedson, however, is ineligible to play in the ongoing first phase which is scheduled to be held till September 20.

Wedson will be available for the second phase where he could play eleven matches means he will earn around US$7000 for each match. Wedson played for Sheikh Jamal for three seasons from 2014 to 2016. In 2014, other Haitian forward Sony Norde moved to Sheikh Jamal from Sheikh Russel KC for US$70,000 for the season, which was a record at that time.
“I think Bangladesh is my second country because last five years I stayed here more than my country. I played here in a big time in my career that’s why I come back here again,” said Wedson after arriving in Dhaka on Monday to sign the contract. He continued, “If for money, I couldn’t come here. I had lots of offer outside but I showed interest to come here.”
