New Zealand cricket team arrive in Dhaka Tuesday afternoon BCB

Members of the New Zealand cricket team will be in a three-day room quarantine and following Covid-19 tests will be allowed to take the training facilities in Mirpur

New Zealand cricket team reached Dhaka Tuesday afternoon for the five-match T20I series against hosts Bangladesh.

Though the visitors travelled in a commercial flight, special arrangements by the Bangladesh Cricket Board saw the members of the team spend a small time at the airport immigration.

Members of the New Zealand cricket team will be in a three-day room quarantine and following Covid-19 tests will be allowed to take the training facilities at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Two members of the squad, Finn Allen and Colin de Grandhomme had arrived in Dhaka Friday.

The duo travelled from England after taking part in The Hundred.

Tuesday, New Zealand Cricket in an official statement revealed that Allen has tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival in Bangladesh.

Finn, who represented the Birmingham Phoenix in England’s new Hundred competition, is fully-vaccinated and passed all his pre-departure tests in England - before testing positive 48 hours after arrival in Dhaka.

Finn will be cleared to re join his team-mates after undergoing treatment and the statutory period of isolation, and provided he tests negative for Covid-19 on consecutive days.

BCB left no stone unturned in its bid to ensure hospitality for the Kiwis, and the Covid-19 protocol in place will be similar to that afforded to Australia cricket team earlier this month.

The Aussies had reached Dhaka on July 29 and played a five-T20I series against Bangladesh between August 3 to 9 under strict Covid-19 protocol.

Members of the Bangladesh team also reported to the hotel Tuesday and will be in quarantine.

They have to undergo a couple of Covid-19 tests.

Star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who returned to the United States to spend time with his family following the Australia series, was set to join the team in the evening.

The Black Caps are touring Bangladesh for the first time in about eight years

Back in 2013, Bangladesh had registered a whitewash against the visitors in a three-match ODI series.

All the matches will take place behind closed doors in Mirpur on September 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 respectively.

The matches are scheduled to start from 4pm.
