Chasing a low scoring target of 109, Dhaka reached home with seven balls and equal number of wickets to spare
Beximco Dhaka registered their first win in their fourth match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup when they defeated Fortune Barishal by seven wickets at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing a low scoring target of 109, Dhaka reached home with seven balls and equal number of wickets to spare.
Dhaka Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim came to bat at number three and anchored the innings with an unbeaten 23 off 34 deliveries.
Yasir Ali Rabbi was impressive with the bat for Dhaka as he scored 44 off 30 deliveries with three fours and two sixes.
Barishal were in the match to some extent even after 16th over as Dhaka still needed 34 runs from four overs in their low scoring encounter. But in 17th and 18th over they conceded nine runs each and in 18th over Yasir struck two sixes over deep mid wicket against Barishal pacer Taskin Ahmed to seal the match.
Earlier, Barishal made a poor batting effort as they managed to score only 108 runs in their stipulated 20 overs.
Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for Barishal with a run-a-ball 33 while skipper Tamim Iqbal also scored a run-a-ball 31.
Apart from these two, only Mehedi Hasan Miraz crossed the double figure mark with 12 runs and overall it was a poor batting effort from Tamim-led side.
Lack of application and wrong choice of shots from Barishal batsmen cost them wickets in crucial stages of the innings and eventually ended with a below par score even at a wicket that is not much batting friendly.
Dhaka’s Robiul Islam Robi made the damage to Barishal top order as he picked four wickets at the top of their batting line-up.
Robi finished with an impressive bowling figure of 4-0-20-4 and later was adjudged man of the match for his match winning effort.
Despite the win Dhaka are still sitting at the bottom of the points table after 4 matches. Barishal also won only one match from four outings but they are above Dhaka in the points table with better run rate.
