Bangladesh cricket board is gradually trying to resume cricket back in field in their cautious pursuit, they extended the practice opportunity of players for two more days.

As a major step towards resumption of cricket in the country, the board upon request from the cricketers had arranged facilities and grounds across the country for the cricketers to use but individually and under strict health guidelines set by the BCB medical team.

The programme was supposed to end on Sunday, but with the interest of players, especially Mushfiqur Rahim, the experienced wicket-keeper batsman of the side, the activity will continue two more days before the eid vacation.

It was natural following the procedure that expectation would climb for cricket to resume in full in the country as it remained suspended since late March this year. However, taking the current Covid19 situation the challenge is still big informed BCB chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.

Following the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, the board is in plan to get BCB High Performance team to practice and also the national team if the discussion of touring Sri Lanka in September gets the green light. BCB is also mulling to resume Dhaka Premier League which got suspended following first round of matches due to rising cases of Covid19 infections.

“Mushfiq will practice for two more days. So far, we have not faced any trouble arranging the practice sessions as far as heath measures are concerned. This was because we dealt a small number of players so the job was pretty easy. But the challenge will be greater when we will have a bigger number of people. Training and tournament are two different things to manage,” said Dr Debashish.

“In training we are having one by one session which is the easiest way. But when we involve teams, the scenario will be totally different. It will involve lodging, food, transport and other logistics. The exposure increases as the number of people involved increases and it becomes difficult to ensure the measurements,” Debashish explained.

A total of 11 cricketers, who are part of the national pool, participated in the specially arranged sessions in four venues across the country. There were cricketers apart from the national pool who had used these BCB facilities upon special permission but a schedule maintained by their own.  It is understood that this has encouraged many others who are now looking forward to set foot on the turf following the Eid vacation. However, that will depend on BCB’s next course of action informed the oraganisation’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“The work is still in progress when it comes to our plan after Eid and obviously. BCB game development committee has already prepared their plan with the High-Performance team. For the national team is concern it will depend on the confirmation of the upcoming Sri Lanka series,” said Nizamuddin.

“Obviously, there are more domestic cricketers who had expressed their desire to avail the BCB’s training facilities after Eid. The board is willing to provide the facilities to as much cricketers but we also have to follow the safety measures and maximise the venues so that the safety and social distancing can be followed accordingly,” Nizamuddin explained.
