“Our under-19 World Cup winning cricketers and officials have come forward in this crisis moment of the country by donating Tk2.5 lakh combined. From CWAB we are appreciating such an initiative taken by under-19 cricketers and officials. CWAB believes this pandemic can be tackled with combined effort from everyone,” CWAB general secretary Debabrata Pal was quoted as saying in the press release.

Earlier, 91 first-class cricketers from the country’s domestic circuit had decided to come forward and donate half of their monthly salary to corona fund which is handled by CWAB amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. According to sources, the donation from the first-class cricketers is  a sum of around Tk8-10 lakhs

Before that a total of 27 cricketers – 17 with BCB contracts and 10 who have played for the national team not too long ago – donated half of their monthly salary to the coronavirus fund and the amount was approximately Tk26 lakhs.

BCB has postponed all cricketing activities from the middle of last month owing to the coronavirus pandemic, and it is unclear when things would be back to normal as the Covid-19 situation is becoming worse around the world with each passing day.

In fact, all sorts of sporting activities have been stopped across the globe in the recent past.

As of Wednesday, The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh now stands at 218 and the death toll at 20.
