BCB to donate in corona fund

 The decision from the board has come at the back of the national cricketers donating half of their monthly salary

Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] has decided to donate money to the government fund for combating against ongoing coronavirus pandemic. BCB director and media committee chairman Jalal Younus informed Dhaka Tribune about the board’s intention on Wednesday.

The decision from the board has come at the back of the national cricketers donating half of their monthly salary. On Wednesday, 27 leading cricketers of the country took their respective social media accounts to reveal their decision to donate 15 days of their salary to fight against coronavirus in the country. The cricketers will hand over some Taka 26 lacs to the government as the country passes a tensed situation dealing the coronavirus.

“I would like to thank the cricketers for taking the initiative. It is a beautiful gesture shown by them more because cricketers who do not have a contract with the board and are not under monthly salary, also took part in this,” said Jalal to Dhaka Tribune over phone on Wednesday.

 “Around 10 cricketers who are not under a contract have participated in this noble cause. I hope this gesture by the cricketers will influence others in the country to come forward and extend their help,” BCB director Jalal added. 

Jalal informed the board has also decided to contribute a fund to the government but the amount is yet to be decided.

“We are going through a crisis at the moment and there are many who are trying to contribute for the society and the country from their respective position. BCB has also decided to contribute to the cause. The amount and where to donate the fund will soon be decided,” Jalal informed.

 As of Wednesday afternoon, 39 people have been infected in Bangladesh informed the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR). One more person has died to the coronavirus (Covid-19) infection in the country, taking the number of deaths from the disease in the country to five.

 Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, which was first reported in China’s Wuhan and has killed at least 16,558 people across the world and infected 381,649 till date.

 At least 102,429 people have recovered from the virus which has spread to 195 countries.
