A joint effort by the bowlers got Old DOHS SC to a winning start to the season defeating Legends of Rupganj by 25 runs in the Dhaka Premier League on Sunday.

On the same day, Prime Doleshwar SC had a narrow escape winning the game by just eight runs against Brothers Union.

Legends of Rupganj v Old DOHS

After losing the toss at BKSP Ground 4, DOHS openers made a solid start by forming a 106-run stand to give a perfect platform. Anisul Islam Emon was the first to be dismissed after scoring 59 and his opening partner Rakin Ahmed got out for 48 to leave the side on 130-2. In the 34th over, DOHS were on 158-2 and was looking for an onslaught in the remaining overs, bu the fall of one-down Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who made 35, started a crumble in their innings. Since then they lost wickets in regular intervals and in the end were bundled out for just 230 in the 49th over, even failing to utilize a full over.

Defending the target, DOHS bowlers kept their discipline and got their first wicket in the eighth over as 18-year old medium-pacer Avishek Das got his first wicket in his list A debut by removing Mehedi Maruf for 10. Other opener Pinak Ghosh tried to pull some resistance scoring 53 but found very little support from middle order and when he was dismissed Rupganj were struggling with 110/5. Sunzamul Islam scored 40 batting at seven and Sohag Gazi added 32 at nine but those efforts were not good enough to cross the line as Rupganj were folded for 205 in the last ball of 50th over.

Man of the match Avishek and Abdur Rashid picked three wickets each for DOHS.

Prime Doleshwar SC v Brothers Union

Right-arm pacer Rejaur Rahman on attack, the first ball saw Nayeem Islam Jnr perish to a run-out and the fourth ball pinned Junaid in front of the stumps for an LBW on 97 and brings an end to a nail biting affair. Reajur, the 21-year old medium-pacer, playing his second List A game finished with four wickets as his colleagues roared for registering a close win at Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
