“No, there was nothing like revenge or any such thing [attached with my celebration] and I have never been like that in my entire career. Basically, I don’t plan my celebration but my son is fond of dinosaurs and I tried to emulate that after scoring the double century,’’ Mushfiqur said explaining his celebration
Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim dedicated his third Test double hundred to his two-year old son Sharoj Rahim Mayan.
He also revealed that he was imitating dinosaurs in the celebration following the millstone, as the child is fond of them.
Mushfiqur surpassed Tamim Iqbal as the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in Tests with his 203-run innings and helped Bangladesh take the driving seat in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.
The right hander has been under some pressure off the field, as the board had asked him to prove his worth after opting out of the Pakistan tour, but the 32-year old was not phased.
“No, there was nothing like revenge or any such thing [attached with my celebration] and I have never been like that in my entire career. Basically, I don’t plan my celebration but my son is fond of dinosaurs and I tried to emulate that after scoring the double century,’’ Mushfiqur said explaining his celebration.
He was determined to go further in the innings and had wished to become the first Bangladeshi to reach a triple ton in the format. However, captain Mominul Haque declared the innings right after Mushfiqur reached his double century. Mushfiqur was still to learn the reason for the declaration when he was attending the press conference.
“I had a plan and honestly did not think that we would declare the innings. We still had two days in hand and on top of that the more we batted the more the wicket would have cracked [to make it difficult for Zimbabwe]. But then again, the team always comes first. We did not have a discussion about the declaration during team break, but when I was batting I was informed that we would give them [Zimbabwe] six to eight overs to bat,” Mushfiqur said.
“We [the batsman at the crease] then tried to accelerate the run rate, whereas before that I had planned to keep Liton on one end. I had thought if he had scored a hundred I could have scored 300, may be not by end of the day today but in first session tomorrow [Tuesday]. I will try to make use of such an opportunity if I get one in the future. I am happy with what has happened so far, the team is in a good position,” he added.
“It [the decision to declare] might have been due to the weather [which forecasts rain]. I did not ask yet. We have a quality bowling attack and hope this innings will be enough for us to win,” concluded the diminutive batsman.
