The under-19 team touched down Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon after a successful World Cup campaign by achieving the biggest success of Bangladesh cricket
Bangladesh under-19 World Cup winning captain Akbar Ali informed players are not carried away with self satisfaction after becoming the World Champions and they will train hard to prepare themselves for the much tougher challenge in international cricket.
The under-19 team touched down Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon after a successful World Cup campaign by achieving the biggest success of Bangladesh cricket, winning the World Cup crown in South Africa beating India in the final on Sunday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a specific plan with the under-19 winning team as the Board will provide every possible facilities for the next two years under the banner of under-21 team to make them prepare for the national team in near future.
This under-19 team achieved success in last two years by winning significant matches away against tough oppositions and ultimately won the World Cup for the country. Winning captain Akbar Ali, man of the match in the final, informed to the media that the group of players are determined to keep up their consistent performance and ready to prepare them for the next level rather than just carried away with the age-level World Cup winning success.
“I believe cricket in age-level cricket is different compare to international cricket and international cricket is way much difficult and challenging. Board is providing us facilities to move in to the next level and our first target will be to minimize the gap between age-level cricket and international cricket and prepare ourselves properly for the next level,” Akbar said to media during a press conference at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Wednesday.
“After winning the World Cup we got two days rest in South Africa and our team management gave us some messages to prepare ourselves for the next level. We are determined not to be carried away after winning the under-19 World Cup. We know our professional career has just been started. We know that we need to improve ourselves as players. As I said we are not carried away with self-satisfaction after winning the under-19 World Cup rather than we are taking this as an inspiration and will try our best and train hard to reach in the next level and prepare ourselves for the next level,” he added.
Meanwhile, Under-19 head coach, Naveed Nawaz praised the whole team for their consistent performance throughout the tournament and gave credit to players, team management and support from the board for the success. Coach also praised skipper Akbar for his brilliant performance in the final where captain lead from the front and pull off a memorable win from a difficult situation in the World Cup final.
“Akbar generally batted at number six or seven position. And in previous series or like against New Zeland or in England tri-nation series or against Sri Lanka he got limited chance to bat as our top order batsmen scored a lot of runs. But we always knew that Akbar has the temperament and confidence to finish the game. He is one of the best players I have seen in pressure situation as he always bats with calm and cool head. As long as he is out the middle we always had the confidence back in the dressing room that he can handle the pressure situation and bring positive result,” Naveed Nawaz said to media.
Akbar scored an unbeaten 43 off 77 deliveries with four fours and one six and remained unbeaten to clinch a three-wicket victory in the low-scoring thriller.
