Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal Friday became the highest Bangladeshi Twenty20 international run-scorer, during their first T20I against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan previously held the record with 1,567 runs in 76 innings and Tamim required 12 runs to surpass the former.

On 10, Tamim struck a delightful drive off a length delivery in the line of the off stump from Haris Rauf as the ball raced to the cover boundary.

The southpaw, who now has 1,652 runs including 57 in four innings for World XI, leapfrogged Shakib in 72 innings.

Besides Tamim and Shakib, Mahmudullah (1,430) and Mushfiqur Rahim (1,265) are the only other Bangladeshis with more than 1,000 T20I runs.
