Shakib is an ardent football lover and even thought of becoming a pro in his teens, so he strapped on his boots as he waits for a one-year ban slapped on him by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to run its course

The whole world knows of Shakib’s prowess with the willow and cherry, but few remember his passion for football. The ace all-rounder recently gave a reminder of his skills, as he took to the pitch with social football club Footy Hags.

Shakib is an ardent football lover and even thought of becoming a pro in his teens, so he strapped on his boots as he waits for a one-year ban slapped on him by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to run its course.

On October 29, Shakib was banned from cricket by the ICC for two years, with one year of that suspended, for failing to report three corrupt approaches from a bookie.

In a match at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Dhaka this month, Shakib played on the left wing for Footy Hags against the Korean Expat Team. Footy Hags emerged as the victors with a score of 3-2.

In August 2016, Shakib led Bangladesh Tigers to a 4-1 victory over Footy Hags at the Old DOHS Ground in Dhaka. Bangladesh cricketers Mashrafe Mortaza, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal, Nasir Hossain, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Sabbir Rahman played alongside Shakib on the occasion.
