Bangladesh off to a good start as veteran pacer Shaiful Islam took the important wicket of Rohit in the very first over
Bangladesh stand-in captain Mahmudullah elected to field first as India have a good record chasing, and that perhaps was in the mind of the Tigers team management while determining what to do if they won the toss.
India started their innings with two of their most experienced batsmen, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
All eyes were on Rohit particularly as the right-hander is in a great run of form.
But Bangladesh off to a good start as veteran pacer Shaiful Islam took the important wicket of Rohit in the very first over.
@BCBtigers made a slice of history Sunday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the Indian capital as they beat @BCCI for the first time in a T20I after eight failed attempts.https://t.co/39mg2QXKbG#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #BANGLADESHCRICKET #BANGLADESH #CRICKET #BCCI #INDIACRICKET #INDIA— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) November 3, 2019
Rohit became the highest capped player for India (99) in this T20I, crossing MS Dhoni (98).
But the interim captain scored just nine before being trapped in front by Shafiul Islam in the last ball of the over.
Shafiul bowled a good in-cutter and struck the pads before the umpire raised the dreaded finger. The Indian skipper took the review, challenging the umpire’s on-field decision, but there was no ultra edge and hawk-eye showed the ball clipping the top of the bails.
As it happened, the on-field call remained. A good start for Bangladesh as they held the strong Indian batting at bay.
