Tigers revised T20I squad for India series to be announced again on Tuesday
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce the T20 squad again on Tuesday for the three-match T20I series against India in November.
A question has been making the rounds within the cricketing fraternity about Shakib’s participation in the upcoming India series since the current T20I and Test skipper was absent on Monday, for a second consecutive day, for the practice match.
Tigers have practiced for four days since Friday ahead of the India series, and played two practice matches on Sunday and Monday. During those days, Shakib was present only on Saturday.
Shakib is in hot water with the BCB after the ace all-rounder signed a contract with one of the leading telecos of the country, Grameenphone recently.
Media reports suggest BCB president Nazmul Hasan said the Board will send a show-cause notice to Shakib asking for clarification behind him signing with Grameenphone despite the BCB rule that no contracted player is allowed to join with telco companies as brand ambassador.

The BCB boss also said in various media reports that there are some who are conspiring to cancel the upcoming India series.
Earlier, just before the start of national camp, the majority of first-class cricketers and all national team players called for an indefinite strike on October 21 and put forth a 13-pooint demand.
As a reaction, the BCB at first, gave a strong statement on October 22 but later agreed to the majority of the demands on October 23 and thus, players called off the strike and returned to cricketing activities immediately.
Interestingly, Shakib’s agreement with Grameenphone was announced on October 22, and perhaps that may have irked the high-ups of BCB during that tumultuous period.
Shkaib’s absence in the first day of practice raised further questions as it was the first day of practice after the players called off the strike with Shakib being the captain of the side.
However, Shakib attended the practice on day two and then again was absent on both the practice matches on Sunday and Monday.

After all these incidents and Nazmul’s criticism of Shakib in some media outlets, rumours were rife that the southpaw may be dropped from the India series.
BCB were asked repeatedly asked about Shakib’s availability for the tour and Cricket Operations chairman, Akram Khan informed that they have not received any statement about Shakib’s unavailability.
“From Cricket Operation’s end, we didn’t receive any official application or statement regarding Shakib’s unavailability for the India series. I don’t think there is any uncertainty [about Shakib’s participation in the India series]. We have heard from you [journalists] and some are saying he is going and some are saying he is not. There is nothing like it,” said Akram.
Akram also clarified why Shakib has been absent in practice sessions and said the player informed the head coach about it.
“He skipped two practice matches after taking permission from head coach Russell Domingo. Because of that he didn’t play yesterday’s [Sunday] match. The coach and manager are informed about Shakib’s absence,” he added.

But in the end, Akram also informed that the revised T20 squad will be announced on Tuesday with the possibility of a few changes.
“We will tell you the details about the revised T20 team tomorrow [today]. We have some internal issues regarding the T20 team. There are a few changes in the team like Tamim Iqbal is not going due to personal reasons and Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out due to injury. We will give out the T20 team around noon tomorrow and the Test team will be announced a few days later. We need some more time to announce our Test team. We will announce it two to three days later,” Akram concluded.
Whether the T20 skipper Shakib will play in the India series or not, neither the Cricket Operations chairman nor any BCB official could confirm about it and there is confusion aplenty.
According to BCB, all the answers of this confusion will be cleared Tuesday.
