Anamul Haque remained unbeaten on 121 to help host Bangladesh A get 253 for the loss of 10 wickets in the first innings against Afghanistan A.
At the end of day two of the first four-day game, Afghanistan A were on 135/5, trailing by 118 runs with five wickets remaining in the first innings at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna Saturday.
Bangladesh A made a shaky start to the game losing three wickets for just six runs on the board.
But opener Mohammad Naim scored 49 vital runs and more importantly, added 102 for the fourth wicket with Anamul to repair the damage.
Naim missed out on the half-century but national discard Anamul got another useful partner in the shape of Afif Hossain, who made exactly 50, as the pair added 89 for the fifth wicket.
After those two partnerships, the host started to lose wickets in regular intervals but Anamul stood at one side and eventually had to return to the crease after running out of partners.
He played 205 balls and scored 14 boundaries along with two sixes in the innings that lasted almost six hours.
Later in the day, Afghanistan put 135 on the board losing five wickets, trailing by 118 runs when the umpires removed the bails to call it a day.

Left-arm spinner Sanjamul Islam made the most damage for Bangladesh A with three wickets under his belt while pacers Kamrul Islam and Salauddin Shakil picked up a wicket each.
Aghan opener Usman Ghani scored 39.
Earlier, the host resumed the second day on 119/4.
At the end of the day, the Bangladesh A side were in the driving seat.
However, one cannot overlook the massive failure of the Bangladesh A batting.
Seven of the 11 batsmen failed to reach double figure as they were left troubled by both the Afghanistan A pacers and spinners.
Right-arm pacers Yamin Ahmadzai and Naveen-ul-Haq bagged two and three wickets each while leg-spinner Qais Ahmed notched three scalps for the visiting side.
