Jahanara Alam will play for Team Velocity in the three-side tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India
Bangladesh right-arm pacer Jahanara Alam is all set to appear in the 2019 Women’s T20 Challenge.
Jahanara will play for Team Velocity in the three-side tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Former Bangladesh women’s team coach Mamatha Maben will coach Jahanara’s team in the six-day long tournament.
BCCI as part of its ongoing commitment to growing the women’s game will host the tournament from May 6-11 in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
This is the second year in a row that the BCCI has decided to conduct women's matches during the Indian Premier League playoffs, and this season the format will be a single round-robin, rounded off with a final.
The first season featured only two teams, Supernovas and Trailblazers.
Velocity have been introduced as the third team in the competition this year.
The teams have been drafted with the current and future stars of Indian women cricketers, alongside a selection of the world’s best.
The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket, the organizers believe.
Senior Indian cricketer Mithali Raj will lead Jahanara alongside other overseas cricketers in the shape of Amelia Kerr of New Zealand, Danielle Wyatt from England and Hayley Matthews of the West Indies.
Jahanara’s Velocity will play their first game against Trailblazers on May 8 and take on Supernovas the following day.
The final will be played on May 11.
All matches will be telecast live on Star Sports Network.
