In the other two matches of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club will take on Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, while Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will face Sheikh Jamal in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium

The tie between Legends of Rupganj and Abahani Limited in the Super League round of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at BKSP ground 4 Sunday has turned out to be a potential title-decider.

A victory will see table-topper Rupganj emerge as the champion of the season.

While a win for Abahani will mean the Dhamnondi-based club will keep their chance alive in the race for the title, and take it to the next and last matchday of the season Tuesday.

With 12 wins in 14 matches, Rupganj have 24 points while defending champion Abahani with 11 victories in 14 games have 22 points.

An Abahani win against Rupganj and then the sides winning their respective last games of the season will see them finish on equal points.

The two sides are equal as far as head-to-head is concerned and thus, net run rate will come into effect.

Rupganj throughout the season have been a consistent unit, and often been victorious ever since the start of the competition.

The side at one point had won nine consecutive matches to take themselves close towards the championship, and move to the Super League phase as the league leader.

Rupganj won the first two matches in the Super League, followed by a defeat in the third game, against Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited.

“Undoubtedly Abahani are a good side. But we have played some good cricket this season so we do not need to look at the opposition at this point. Our aim is how we can play good cricket on yet another day. I believe there will not be that much of a difference if we can stick to the basics and play the game upto our ability,” said Rupganj coach Aftab Ahmed to the media Saturday.

Former Bangladesh batsman Aftab made his coaching debut with Rupganj this season and has been able to inspire his charges to put on a brilliant show.

The former right-handed batsman said the achievement so far has been big, given that he did not have much expectation on the team prior to the season.

“I have been given more than I expected. The confidence the team showed in every game, there should not be a problem taking on any team in the remainder of the tournament I believe. We can honestly expect a big result from this team,” said Aftab.

On the other hand, Abahani have been boosted by the presence of national cricketers, starting with ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza.

The batting unit boasts the services of Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun and Sabbir Rahman, while they also have all-rounders Saifuddin, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mosaddek Hossain.

Apart from Soumya and Sabbir, almost all the cricketers have performed well for the team.

In the other two matches of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club will take on Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, while Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will face Sheikh Jamal in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

None of the quartet are in the race for the title.
