Abahani Limited with seven wins in eight matches have equal number of points with Legends of Rupganj but the Dhanmondi-based outfit are ahead in terms of net run rate

League leader Abahani Limited will look to hold onto their reign as the side are set to lock horns with Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier League at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Thursday.

Abahani with seven wins in eight matches have equal number of points with Legends of Rupganj but the Dhanmondi-based outfit are ahead in terms of net run rate.

On the other hand, Doleshwar are at No 4 in the points table with six wins from eight games.

In last five encounters, both Abahani and Doleshwar bagged two wins against each other while one game finished in a no result, in season 2016 as the umpires left the field of play citing illness.

Doleshwar pacer Abu Jayed Rahi said Abahani-Doleshwar ties always happen to be competitive.

“On top of that, they (Abahani) are at the top of the table and we are just a win behind them. It is an important game for us as winning it will put as ahead in the championship race,” said Jayed to the media in Mirpur Wednesday.

“All the players try to put some extra effort against Abahani given their strength. The same is for me. Playing well will keep me focused and help the team,” said the right-arm pacer.

Abahani all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain in contrast said there is no option to be lenient at this point of the tournament, more so because the game is against Doleshwar, who are a tough opposition.

“They (Doleshwar) are tough as an unit, there is no doubt with that. At the same time, everyone is watching how we are doing as a team. It is not that we have to think differently about Doleshwar. I think we can win the game if we can give even 80% of our potential,” said Mosaddek.

On the same day, Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited will face Rupganj at BKSP Ground 4.

Sheikh Jamal have four wins in eight matches.

At Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, two teams at the bottom of the points table are expected to make a dogfight as Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity will take on Uttara Sporting Club.

Promoted to the Premier League this season, Uttara have secured just two wins in eight games, while Khelaghar are languishing at the bottom of the standing with one win in the season so far.
