The BCB high performance department is mulling starting a camp following the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

The BCB HP in a meeting at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Saturday decided to run a camp starting from May 18 this year.

According to the BCB HP chairman Naimur Rahman, the committee is looking to involve the performers in the Dhaka League, and also include a few of the national discards.

“We had a meeting to plan the basics for the HP camp, which is to start soon. We discussed on the time, venues and other logistics. We are looking forward to starting the camp this May after the Dhaka League. The players need to rest well before joining the camp,” Naimur informed the media.

The previous HP squad had involved 24 cricketers, among which a few got to make it to the national dressing room.

Test opener Shadman Islam and pacers Khaled Ahmed and Ebadat Hossain are players from the previous HP camp who have made it to the national team.

At the same time, the HP programme has also shaped players including the likes of Yasir Ali, Saif Hasan and Afif Hossain, who are under the limelight in the domestic arena.

“We are looking to a squad of 24 or 25 cricketers this time. We need to ensure there are enough players so that two teams can be formed to play matches,” Naimur explained.

According to former Bangladesh captain Naimur, Australia coach Simon Helmot will continue his duties as the HP head coach, and have local support staffs alongside him.

“We are going to have two separate teams for HP and Bangladesh A. That way, there will not be any issue having tours or home series of the HP unit,” said Naimur, who ensured that the BCB will create enough opportunities for the players to play matches.
