Defending champions Abahani Limited secured their third win of the season as they defeated Brothers Union by 14 runs despite Yasir Ali’s fighting century at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Thursday.

In the other matches of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club sealed a commanding nine wicket win over Legends of Rupganj, riding on Anamul Haque Bijoy’s unbeaten century at BKSP while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defended 106 successfully against Shinepukur Cricket Club to clinch a 12-run victory at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali stadium in Fatullah.

Mashrafe bin Mortaza came back to the playing eleven after missing first two matches due to personal reason as Brothers won the toss and elected to field.

Brothers took three wickets in the first hour as the score was 56/3 after 15 overs.

Opener Jahurul Islam, Jahid Javed and experienced Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer went back to the pavilion within 15 overs.

Nazmul Hossian Shanto and captain Mosaddek Hossain scored 44 and 54 respectively in the middle-order to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Later, all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and Mashrafe formed a 62-run partnership off just 32 balls.

Saifuddin scored 59 off 45 balls with four fours and two sixes and Mashrafe scored 26 off 15 balls with three fours and one six.

In reply, Borther lost regular wickets from the beginning.

Number five batsman Yasir Ali scored an outstanding century but no other batsmen gave him enough support to snatch the victory.

Eventually, Brothers managed to score 222 runs losing eight wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.

Yasir was unbeaten on 106 off 112 balls with eight fours and two sixes.

Mashrafe and Sabbir Rahman took two wickets apiece for Abahani.

Saifuddin was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Abahani 236/6 in 50 overs (Mosaddek Hossain 54, Naeem Islam Jnr 2/28) defeated Brothers 222/8 in 50 overs (Yasir Ali 106, Sabbir Rahman 2/21) by 14 runs
