Shuvagata Hom smashed 58 off 18 balls with four fours and six sixes
Shinepukur Cricket Club registered their second successive win in the Dhaka Premier League T20 tournament to secure a semi-final spot after defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national stadium on Tuesday.
In the other match at the same venue, Prime Bank Cricket Club registered a 47-run victory over Brothers Union.
Meanwhile, Gazi Group Cricketers won against Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan by 27 runs in a rain-affected match at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah while Uttara Sporting Club won by six wickets against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in the same venue.
Shinepukur Cricket Club vs Mohammedan Sporting Club
Batting first, Shinepukur posted a good total thanks to a record-breaking innings from Shuvagata Hom. The right-hander smashed 58 off 18 balls with four fours and six sixes. He reached the half-century mark in just 16 balls, the fastest in terms of balls by a Bangladeshi in a recognized T20 match.
Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for Shinepukur with a 66-run innings from 41 balls. Captain Afif Hossain scored 25 while Mohammad Rakib scored 22.
In reply, Mohammedan managed to score 170 runs losing nine wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. Openers Avishek Mitra (19) and Abdul Majid (33) gave their side a quick start but regular wickets in the middle part of the innings held them back. Irfan Shukkur played a good innings off 52 off 29 balls but in the end that was not enough for Mohammedan as they lost the match by 22 runs.
Mohammad Ashraful scored 21 off 20 balls. Shuvagata Hom was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Prime Bank Cricket Club vs Brothers Union
Prime Bank posted a competitive total of 169 for four in their 20 overs while batting first. They had only 47 for three during the ninth over. But late surge from Ariful Haque and Nazmul Hossin Milon helped them score a big total. Ariful scored 59 off 33 balls with four fours and two sixes while Milon scored 45 off 21 balls with one four and four sixes. Opener Rubel Mia scored 44.
Chasing 170 runs for victory, Brothers managed to score only 122 losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Fazley Mahmud was the top-scorer with 39 off 32 balls. Monir Hossian took three wickets for Prime Bank while veteran spinner Abdur Razzak took two wickets.
Gazi Group Cricketers vs Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan
Due to rain, the match was reduced to 10 overs in the morning session at Fatullah. BKSP won the toss and elected to field first. Gazi Group scored 124 in their 20 overs riding on Rony Talukder’s brilliant innings. Rony scored 41 off just 16 balls with two fours and four sixes.
Naushad Iqbal took three wickets in 2 overs conceding 20 runs for BKSP.
In reply, BKSP lost three wickets with just 6 runs in the board. Later Akbar Ali scored 43 and Aminul Islam scored 34 but eventually they were 27 runs short.
Abu Hider was brilliant with the ball as he took two wickets in his two overs conceding just 2 runs and a maiden.
Rony Talukder was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity vs Uttara Sporting Club
Khelaghar posted 109 runs losing seven wickets in 17 overs batting first in another rain-curtailed match at Fatullah. Rafsan Al Mahmud was the top scorer with 28 runs while Moinul Islam scored 20. Abdur Rashid and Sajjad Hossaimn took two wickets for Uttara.
Chasing 110, Uttara lost three wickets early, but opener Tanzid Hasan played a superb knock of 72 and remained unbeaten to guide his team home in 15.5 overs. Tanzid’s 72 came from 57 balls with five fours and three sixes.
Robiul Haque took three wickets for Khelaghar.
