Shakib informed that the four senior players not being able to score runs in the final hampered them heavily in pursuit of 200 on a good batting wicket

Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib al Hasan admitted losing key wickets in crucial moments, and batting failure from the senior all-rounders while chasing cost them the final.

Dhaka lost the BPL 6 final against Comilla Victorians by 17 runs at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Friday.

“Tamim [Iqbal] batted superbly. And also, there were a few turning points for us. Even after the target was 200, I always believed that it is chasable because the wicket was really good for batting. We got a great start. We had good power hitters in the squad so we had the belief we could win the match. Actually we lost the momentum after losing Upul Tharanga’s wicket. Then I got out and Rony [Talukdar] also got run out and that changed the game for us,” said Shakib during the post-match presentation ceremony Friday.

Dhaka had word-class all-rounders in their ranks in the form of Shakib himself, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.

Shakib informed that the four senior players not being able to score runs in the final hampered them heavily in pursuit of 200 on a good batting wicket.

“Even myself, Pollard, Russell and Narine could not even score more than 20 all together. And eventually we lost the final by just 17 runs. Our team depend on these senior players. So we could not perform with the bat in crucial moments and thus we lost,” he said.

“We were in a good position. We needed 90 odd runs probably in 10-11 overs with plenty of wickets. We just could not finish well despite being in a strong position,” he added.

Shakib was adjudged man-of-the-series but he believes he should have scored more runs.

He also thinks despite his brilliant bowling performance throughout the tournament, there is still chance for him to improve his skills in this department.
