Comilla scored 153/8 after sent into batting before their bowlers and fielders restricted Dhaka for 146/9
League leaders Dhaka Dynamites faced yet another loss in the Bangladesh Premier League season 6 as Comilla Victorians beat them by seven runs on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Comilla scored 153/8 after sent into batting before their bowlers and fielders restricted Dhaka for 146/9.
Local stars shone for the Victorians as Shamsur Rahman was the top scorer with 48 runs while Tamim Iqbl made 34. Sri Lankan Thisara Perera, who later picked three wickets, scored some quick runs, 26 off 12, in the death overs to put a defendable score on the board.
Dhaka skipper Shakib al Hasan took three wickets while Andre Russell and Rubel Hossain took two wickets each.
Zazai goes early again
Dhaka opener Hazratullah Zazai started his BPL career with back-to-back fifty plus innings, but since then the left-hander has failed to find any rhythm. Against Comilla he scored a single digit score once again as he got out scoring one off just four balls. His scores in last three innings have been 6, 4, and 1. Dhaka missed a quick opening start as Zazai went early again.
Horrible wide call by the umpire
Umpiring in BPL this season often been criticized as in many occasion the poor decisions raise questions. During this match, a horrible decision had Comilla players shocked when umpire Ranmore Martinez called a wide against spinner Mahedi Hasan. The batsman tried to cut the ball and it was an under-edge from his bat and the ball went between the legs of keeper Anamul Haaque. Anamul then ran backwards and dived to check the single. But surprisingly, the umpire called it a wide. Players were stunned and confused but the decision was not overturned. The incident happened in the fourth ball of eighth over.
Russell blitz at the middle
All-rounder Andre Russell smashed five sixes in the middle part of the innings during the chase. The Windies right hander blasted sixes all over the park and those sixes were traveling 20-30 beyond the boundary. Russel scored 46 off 24 with two fours and five sixes. He lost his wicket in the fifteenth over when Dhaka needed 42 more runs to win. It was a crucial breakthrough for Comilla.
Shamsur scored useful runs
Shamsur Rahman, the former top order batsman of Bangladesh national cricket team, came into the limelight this season while playing for Comilla Victorians. The right hander played an impressive innings for the Victorians in the Sylhet phase and he played another good innings against Dhaka. He scored 48 off 35 balls in the middle part of the innings. A confident pull shot for four in the second ball he faced and a brilliant shot against Rusell for six showed his good form. The right-hander could have extended his innings a little more to add more runs for his team but he fell agonizingly short of his 50 when he became Shakib’s 99th BPL wicket.
Shakib shines with the ball again
Dhaka captain Shakib al Hasan was in good form with the ball as the left-hander picked up wickets regularly in crucial moments of the game. The all-rounder continued his bowling brilliance with a three-wicket haul against Comilla. With these three wickets he has touched a landmark of claiming hundred wickets in BPL history. Shakib took the wickets of Tamim Iqbal, Shahid Afridi, Shamsur Rahman. And those wickets came conceding just twenty four runs in his four overs.
Even with the defeat Dhaka are still on top with 10 points from eight matches though Chittagong Vikings, who are in the second place with equal number of points due to lesser net rate, played two less games. Dhaka will play their next game against Rangpur Riders on next Monday in Chittagong.
On the other hand Chittagong have now equal number of points from same games like Dhaka but they are in the third position with inferior run-rate. They will face Khulna Titans in their next game on next Monday at Chittagong.
