Aliss came to the limelight Friday with a match-winning performance with the ball against Rangpur, finishing with bowling figure of 4/26, including a brilliant hat-trick.

Defending champion Rangpur Riders have officially raised questions as to whether Dhaka Dynamites spinner Aliss al Islam’s bowling action is legitimate.

Aliss came to the limelight Friday with a match-winning performance with the ball against Rangpur, finishing with bowling figure of 4/26, including a brilliant hat-trick.

Aliss’ bowling action was reported while he was playing in the first division league in Dhaka for Old DOHS last year where he took 27 wickets in the competition.

This is his first appearance in the BPL as the 22-year old off-spinner has not even played in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League yet.

“We were informed four days earlier that outside the draft, a player can be included in a team, and Al Islam was drafted in the Dynamites squad. Although we did not have any official problem regarding his inclusion, it should be mentioned that his name is in the suspected bowling action list from the first division of the Dhaka League. We have been told that his action was reviewed, but looking at his bowling action in (Friday's) match, it seems that his action has not yet been rectified. It seems his arm bends more than the tolerance limit of 15 degrees, especially when he is bowling his ‘Doosra’ deliveries,” said an official press release of the Riders.

Meanwhile, when questioned about Aliss’ bowling action, BPL governing council’s technical committee member Jalal Yunus told the media that his bowling action was cleared after working under a coach.

“If there is a problem with a bowler’s action, then the bowler is informed by our committee. If his bowling action is more than the allowed 15 degrees, then he needs to rectify his bowling action by working under a coach. Later, that bowler has to give test to see whether his action has been rectified. Aliss was reported for his suspect bowling action, but later he was cleared. As a bowle,r he is cleared now, so he is playing in the BPL. At the moment, if an umpire or match official again files a report against his bowling action, then he needs to give the test again. But firstly, he needs to be reported again by the match officials,” informed Jalal.

“There are a few bowlers playing in the BPL who were suspected before. We have given instruction to the umpires to follow their action closely. If they are reported again, then we will work with that specific bowler to correct his bowling action,” he added.
