In-form opener Hazratullah Zazai (one) went back to the pavilion early, but captain Shakib al Hasan and Kieron Pollard built a 78-run partnership in the middle overs to help Dhaka register a good total.

Dhaka Dynamites edged defending champion Rangpur Riders by two runs in a thrilling BPL encounter, riding on debutant Aliss al Islam’s hatt-trick in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Friday.

Chasing 184, Rangpur were well on course towards victory as they were 146 for three at one stage with Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Mithun adding 121.

But Aliss took the wicket of Rossouw in the third ball of the 16th over to bring Rangpur back into the game.

Aliss then claimed his hat-trick in the 18th over to swing the game from Rangpur as he took the wickets of Mithun, captain Mashrafe bin Moratza and Farhad Reza in the last three balls of that over.

Rangpur then needed 23 runs in 12 balls to win.

Sunil Narine conceded nine runs in that over and bagged two wickets.

Finally, Rangpur required 14 off the final six deliveries.

Shafiul Islam hit two fours off the first two balls to make the equation five needed form four balls.

But young spinner Aliss held his nerve and conceded only three in the last ball of the match.

Aliss was adjudged man-of-the-match for his brilliant performance with the ball as he finished with bowling figure of 4/26.

Rossouw was the top-scorer for Rangpur with 83 off 44 balls, while Mithun made 49 off 35 deliveries.

Earlier, Dhaka posted a challenging 183 on the board losing nine wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.

In-form opener Hazratullah Zazai (one) went back to the pavilion early, but captain Shakib al Hasan and Kieron Pollard built a 78-run partnership in the middle overs to help Dhaka register a good total.

Pollard played an aggressive innings of 62 off just 26 balls with five fours and four sixes while Shakib scored 36.

Shafiul notched three wickets for Rangpur.
