Abu Jayed six-for gives East Zone big lead

East Zone fast bowler Abu Jayed was at his best as he took 6/74 to dismiss North Zone for 377 and get an 89-run first innings lead in the third day of their Bangladesh Cricket League’s round four match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman stadium in Rajshahi on Thursday. 

The day began with North Zone looking good at 178/2 in reply to East Zone’s 466 and Naeem Islam formed a 101-run partnership with Farhad Hossain to take the score to 244 before Farhad was dismissed for 64. 

Tanbir Hayder then went cheaply for just two runs but wicketkeeper Dhiman Ghosh and Naeem formed another partnership to take the score to 349 before Dhiman was lbw by Abu Jayed after scoring a quick-fire 68 from 70 deliveries.

Abu Jayed then skittled out the remaining batsmen – Ziaur Rahman for three, Sohag Gazi for 10, Imran Ali for a duck, and then the all important wicket of Naeem Islam, who scored exactly 100. This was Naeem’s 26th first-class century.

In reply, East Zone made 90/2 with Mominul Haque and Mahmudul Hasan not out on 32 and five runs respectively.
